Jack Bauer, the main character in the series, 24, was an agent for the Counter Terrorist Unit. Despite his ignoring orders and not following protocol, he was indispensable, critical to the safety of the country. Although his radical behavior was fiction, you can learn key lessons from his fearless character to help change your world. Here are some tips from Jack that will help you make a difference:
• It’s ok to break the formal process to get things done. Grab an opportunity when it knocks without asking permission. Do what it takes to achieve your objective, and if you succeed your associates will not be angry.
• Be emotionally invested in what you’re doing, especially in a creative industry like advertising. They’re a powerful tool in selling and executing your ideas.
• Dont’ be scarred. Jack feared nothing, and you should too. Face your adversaries with with conviction. You have nothing to lose.
• Develop a strategy and implement it. Jack was able to masterfully execute on the front lines, and lead others to success.
• Be persuasive & voice your opinion. Getting people on your line of thinking will assist in changing ideas into reality. Having a strong committment makes this easier. Thinking of your career as just a “job” will not help achieve goals like the conviction of emotional commitment. Voice your opinion, take a stance - you’ll be respected for it.
• Break the rules. Following the same set of rules can be mundane, not allowing companies to grow. If your heart tells you to break a rule in order to achieve a goal, do it. People are afraid of change, so demonstrate the benefits of your actions, and they’ll come around.
• Take risks. Valuable things are worth it. Everyone’s already accomplishing the easy stuff. The easy thing to do might not be the RIGHT thing to do. Just have a contingency plan in case anything goes wrong.
• Be loyal. Everyone appreciates this moral. Although Jack might not have always taken the right action, his associates admired his loyalty.
• Don’t be reserved to only knowing your own position. Learning all the jobs in your company will make you more valuable - a “Jack” of all trades.

If you follow these tactics, not everyone is going to like you. You’re causing a stir. You’re reacting when others are stagnant. You’re doing things differently. Jack was a controversial character, and not everyone liked him. But he got things done. He solved problems creatively and passionately - and so can you!
What fictional character are you most like now? Will you try some of Jack’s methods?
